A sadly accurate post.

It's an irony that the 5% threshold, which is designed partially to exclude smaller extremist parties, could enforce the exclusion of liberals whilst Jobbik get an MEP elected.

The SZDSZ are/were half-right. Constitutional reform is also required - accompanied by a total review of the educational curriculum. There's usually a core of nationalists in each country, but it's unusual to find them afforded so much respect throughout the educational system, and beginning to dictate the political agenda, which here sounds like its blending nicely with contemporary themes of victimhood and anomy.

Efforts to change the beliefs of these idiots by passing poorly crafted fatous laws is ridiculous. How about a law against denying the mass murders of Stalin or Mao? You will argue that is not relevant today because Maoist crime deniers are not a serious political force in the Country today? True, but they might be. I am in no way defending the Garda, Jobbik or any splinter group of these odious organizations, but passing laws and asking Hungary's ineffectualy legal system to enforce them as a way t address the serious social tensions and problems afflicting Hungary just makes no sense.
The way to minimize the importance of the neo-Nazis is to build an economically healthy and competitive society. By doing so, one will not get rid of the idiots but they become less relevant by the day.
BTW, as a purely political point, from the MSZP's perspective having the fringe right become a vocal section of the politics, will force FIDESZ to disassociate themselves from them. This, as you know, is hard for FIDESZ which does not want to cede this vote to Jobbik, but the more radical the right becomes the more untenable becomes FIDESZ's efforts of having it both ways.

I live in a village called Tarnazsadany,Heves county, I am ashamed to say, where innocent people are intimidated daily by gypsies, frightened to leave there own homes, even walk through there own village,it is a disgusting situation in this day and age, Rendorseg frightened to confront those responsible, I am told drugs and prostitution flourish here, no problem at all..

One of the things that the government could do is open up a "rapid response" phone line - to offer advice to those being harassed, with the promise of heads being banged together and full police investigations.
