Veroce is also known as the town that hosts the 'Magyar Sziget', a self-proclaimed competitor to the 'liberal' 'gay', 'immoral' and 'interationalist' Sziget festival held anually in Budapest. It is organised by Torockai's HVIM and, apparantly, Vona Gabor has also been spotted as a guest. It is purposely held anually in the week prior to Sziget in order to benefit from the publicity that festival generates. While Sziget attracts around 60.000 visitors per day, the Magyar Sziget
is a marginal affair, with around 3,000 visitors. The visitors at the Magyar Sziget are a mixed bunch: a significant minority of skinheads and neo nazis, sporting Hitler and Szalasi T - shirts, and one that memorably read 'Zyklon-B', and large majority of youths wearing greater Hungary T-shirts or t-shirts bearing the message 'I am not a Tourist, I am Hungarian'. This sulky, angry crowd gets together there to 'feel Hungarian'. Besides chanting political slogans during 'national rock' concerts, they visit lectures on 'national' topics and practice martial arts. It is a subculture, I cannot imagine this stuff becoming mainstream no matter how well Jobbik do, it is clear that 'Sziget' represents the real, modern Hungary.

As long we are on the subject of national festivals. Can anyone tell me about the politics (if there is any of significance) of the Nemzeti Vágta held in Budapest this June? I will be living in Budapest during that time and besides the entertainment, I was wondering what to expect.
